Grade 1 · Day 108

L121 · sh as ti, ssi, ci, ce, sci, xi, su, ssu; zh as si, su; ch as tu, ti

Today

p.128–129 — a column of real words on one pattern. 52 words and 11 sentences, 30.4 minutes.

The one thing

voice ON
/ʒ/ · s in 'measure'

The same mouth as sh, with your voice ON. It is the sound in the middle of 'measure' and 'treasure'.

They check it: Hand on your throat: this one buzzes, sh does not.

Not in Somali, Arabic, Urdu. For those children this is a new physical skill, not a reminder. Do not let the column start until the mouth can make it.

Watch for

sh, and /dʒ/ as in 'jam'.
