The one thing

sl

No new sound — every sound in these is already taught. What is new is that they sit side by side with nothing between them, and that is a syllable shape Somali, Arabic, Urdu do not allow.

Start with the first sound and HOLD it — ssss, or shhh, or thhh. Keep it going, and slide straight into the next sound without stopping the air. ssss-lip. sslip. slip.

They check it: Hold the first sound for three whole seconds, then slide. If the air never stopped, no vowel can have got in — a vowel needs the air to restart.

Watch for

A vowel in front, or between: 'slip' as [silip]. Same repair as s + stop, and the same fix — the first sound is holdable, so hold it.
