Grade K · Day 65

L30 · Consonant digraph ch

Today

p.44 — a column of real words on one pattern. 15 words, 26.9 minutes.

The one thing

voice off
/tʃ/ · ch

Start it like /t/ — tongue up on the ridge — then let it go into sh. Two sounds glued into one: ch.

They check it: Say /t/ then shhh, faster and faster, until they join.

Not in Somali, Arabic. For those children this is a new physical skill, not a reminder. Do not let the column start until the mouth can make it.

Watch for

sh. A child who says 'shair' for 'chair' is missing the /t/ at the front.
