Grade K · Day 94

L50 · Final consonant blends lb, ld, lf, lk

Today

p.66 — a column of real words on one pattern. 16 words, 26.9 minutes.

The one thing

lb, ld, lf, lk

No new sound — every sound in these is already taught. What is new is that they sit side by side with nothing between them, and that is a syllable shape Somali does not allow.

The l comes first. Your tongue tip goes UP on the ridge and stays there while the air goes around the sides, and only THEN do you make the last sound. help — tongue up, then the p.

They check it: Freeze in the middle of the word, on the l. Your tongue should be touching the ridge. If it is not, the l has turned into a vowel.

Watch for

The l vanishing into a vowel — 'milk' as 'miuk', 'help' as 'hep'. The tongue never arrives at the ridge.
