Write your own sentence
A sentence you write yourself is planned in your head before the pencil moves.
What it is
Now nobody gives you the words. Think of the whole sentence and say it in your head BEFORE the pencil moves — writers who start writing before they know how the sentence ends get stuck in the middle of it.
Watch it built
1Think of one thing that happened. Say the whole sentence in your head.
(My brother found a bird.)
2Write it, starting with a capital.
My brother found a bird
3Finish with a period, then read it back to check it says what you meant.
My brother found a bird.
Remember
Say the whole sentence in your head first. Then write it.
Ask yourself: “How many words did I say?”
Remember
Say it, count it, write it.
