Write your own sentence

Teacher edition · Grade 1 · Lesson 10 · Unit 0 · handwriting
Writing Book 1 · sheet 49
Say it, count it, write it.

1. Look at this first

Say it, count the words on your fingers, then write it.
The boy runs.
Cats like milk.

2. Your turn

Write two three-word sentences of your own about the picture. Say each one before you write it.
Below is what a full, correct answer looks like. Children's wording will differ and should — mark the thing this lesson taught, not everything at once.
The boy runs.model — accept any answer that does the same job
Cats like milk.model — accept any answer that does the same job

3. Before you finish

Say your sentence out loud, then count the words.
Watch forThree words is the target, not a limit. A child who says a longer sentence should write it; a child who says two should be asked one question to get a third.
