Two-syllable words
Syllable chunking works on any long word.
What it is
A two-syllable word is too long to hold as one piece. Split it at the beat — the place your voice steps — and spell one half at a time. You are turning one hard job into two easy ones.
Watch it built
1Say the word and clap the beats.
rabbit — two claps
2Say the first beat and write only that.
rab
3Say the second beat and write it on the end.
rab + bit → rabbit
One more
napkin
↓
nap + kin → napkin
Remember
Clap the beats. Write one beat at a time.
Ask yourself: “How many chunks did I clap?”
Remember
Chunk it, then write it.
