Two-syllable words

Chunking is a habit, not a strategy to remember.

What it is

A two-syllable word is too long to hold as one piece. Split it at the beat — the place your voice steps — and spell one half at a time. You are turning one hard job into two easy ones.

Watch it built

1
Say the word and clap the beats.
rabbit — two claps
2
Say the first beat and write only that.
rab
3
Say the second beat and write it on the end.
rab + bit → rabbit

One more

napkin
nap + kin → napkin
Remember
Clap the beats. Write one beat at a time.
Ask yourself: “How many chunks?”

Remember

Chunks, every time.
