The red margin has a job
The red margin divides the page: numbering on the left, writing on the right.
What it is
The red line is not decoration. Everything you write stays to the RIGHT of it, and the space to its LEFT is for one thing only: the number of the problem you are answering. Keeping that column clear is what lets anyone find question seven without reading the whole page.
Watch it built
1Find the red line. Your writing never crosses it.
│
2Put the problem number in the space to its left.
7 │
3Start the answer just to the right of the line.
7 │ The bird sang in the tree.
Remember
Numbers to the left of the red line. Writing to the right. Always.
Ask yourself: “Which side of the red line does this belong on?”
Remember
Numbers left of the red line.
