What is special about academic English? — use the words

Two words can both fit a sentence, and one of them fits better.

pick

Watch how it is built

1observe means about the same as watch.
We observed the moth for a week.
2select means about the same as pick.
Select the best example.
3complete means about the same as finish.
Complete the chart.

Two ways to say it

✗ We watchd the moth for a week. — this is not wrong, but it is everyday talk.

✓ We observed the moth for a week. — this is how a writer says it.

Ask yourself: “Who is reading this, and does my word suit them?”
