Key adjectives — use the words

Two words can both fit a sentence, and one of them fits better.

Watch how it is built

1accurate means about the same as exactly right.
Her measurement was accurate.
2various means about the same as several kinds.
We tested various soils.
3recent means about the same as just happened.
The recent rain filled the pond.

Two ways to say it

✗ Her measurement was exactly right. — this is not wrong, but it is everyday talk.

✓ Her measurement was accurate. — this is how a writer says it.

Ask yourself: “Who is reading this, and does my word suit them?”

Remember

Two adjectives are usually one too many.
