Writing Book 5 · Lesson 2
The margin asks a question
A question in the margin turns notes into something you can revise from.
What it is
A topic word in the margin tells you what a note is about. A QUESTION in the margin does more: it turns your notes into something you can test yourself with. Cover the right-hand side, read the question, and see whether you can answer it.
Watch it built
1Here is a line of notes.
│ Roots grow toward water, not down
2Ask what someone would want to know here.
Which way do roots actually grow?
3Put the question in the margin, then cover the notes and answer it.
which way? │ Roots grow toward water, not down
Remember
A question in the margin turns notes into a self-test.
Ask yourself: “Does my margin ask a question the notes answer?”
Remember
The margin asks; the notes answer.
