Nouns and the words they combine with — use the words
Some words simply go together, and the pairing has to be learned rather than worked out.
The words
conduct a study
do research
provide evidence
give proof
Watch how it is built
1draw a conclusion means about the same as decide.
We drew a conclusion from the data.
2conduct a study means about the same as do research.
They conducted a study on sleep.
3raise a question means about the same as ask.
The result raises a question.
Two ways to say it
✗ We drew a conclusion from the data. — this is not wrong, but it is everyday talk.
✓ We drew a conclusion from the data. — this is how a writer says it.
Ask yourself: “Have I heard these two words together before?”
