As-Suffah Phonics · Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2

Blumenfeld’s Alpha-Phonics, all 129 lessons, walked by every grade at a different speed. 30 minutes a day at the start of the year, alongside grammar and reading.

The sound column is the one to read first. Where it is filled in, that day introduces a phoneme through the mouth before the book is opened. Where a language is named in red, that sound does not exist in it — for those children it is a new physical skill, not a reminder, and the day is built to take that long.
Three checks, and they do different jobs. SHOW ME runs inside every lesson — a sound is said, the class writes the letters on whiteboards, boards go up, and nothing is recorded. It tells you what to do in the next minute. The weekly quiz is written and marked, and is the only phonics record kept. The exit assessment (reading card) is given to one child at a time once the whole book is finished — it is the only one where an adult hears the child read aloud, and the only one that can tell decoding from memory.
